Making the most of VASO: your guide to getting started

Making the most of VASO: your guide to getting started

Your starting point for finding useful events, meeting good people and making VASO work for you.

VASO brings business events and a growing community together in one place. You can browse for inspiration, build connections or simply dip in when you need something new. Membership is free, and there is no pressure to attend everything.

1. Start with what you want to get out of it

A new client, a fresh perspective, a useful skill or a few more familiar faces in your area: having a purpose makes it easier to choose where to spend your time. You do not need a packed diary. One relevant event and a good conversation can be a worthwhile start.

2. Find events that fit your interests and location

Use the home page Quick Search for a keyword and location. Try “padel”, “IoD” or a subject you want to learn about. For more control, open Advanced Search: select several event types, sectors, audiences and counties to explore a wider mix.

Already checking regularly? Use Date Added to see events added in the past week or month. It is a quick way to spot fresh listings without working through everything again.

Read the event details, check eligibility and follow the organiser’s booking link. VASO helps you discover events; the organiser handles tickets, availability, prices and any changes. A VASO attendance response does not book a ticket.

3. Give people a reason to say hello

Add a recognisable profile photo, a clear introduction and a little about your business, interests and location. Explain who you help and what you are curious about in everyday language. A useful profile makes it easier for someone to recognise a shared interest and start a conversation.

Share only information you are comfortable making visible. Avoid putting private contact details or sensitive personal information in public profile text.

4. Use Going and Interested with visibility in mind

Going and Interested are public signals, not private bookmarks. Other people can see these responses on events and on your profile; attendance activity can also appear around the site. They may reveal where you plan to be.

If you do not want that information to be seen, do not use those responses. You can still browse VASO and book directly with the organiser without marking attendance here. Check the organiser’s own attendee-visibility choices separately.

5. Get to know the people behind the profiles

Visit the member directory and look for shared interests, local connections or complementary experience. When you connect, a short personal note about why you would like to get to know someone is more useful than an immediate sales pitch.

After an event, follow up on the conversation you actually had. Share a useful link, make a relevant introduction or arrange a short catch-up if you both want to continue.

6. Find your corner of the community

Explore groups around your area, profession or interests. Read a little before joining in, ask a thoughtful question and share something useful when you can. If there is a gap, consider bringing a group together around it.

Check the audience and privacy settings before sharing. Keep contributions helpful, relevant and respectful of other members’ time.

7. Make it a light, useful habit

Spend a few minutes checking new events, read the latest blog posts and welcome someone new when it feels natural. Return when you need inspiration or a change of scene. VASO is here to support your business life at your pace.

New here? Try these three steps

  1. Join for free and introduce yourself on your profile.
  2. Find one event you would genuinely enjoy or learn from.
  3. Discover the community and make one thoughtful connection.
